Mesoscopic Coulomb Blockade in One-Channel Quantum Dots
نویسندگان
چکیده
Signatures of “mesoscopic Coulomb blockade” are reported for quantum dots with one fully transmitting point-contact lead; T1 1, T2 ø 1. Unlike the Coulomb blockade (CB) in weaktunneling devices sT1, T2 ø 1d, one-channel CB is a mesoscopic effect requiring quantum coherence. Several distinctive features of mesoscopic CB are observed, including a reduction in CB upon breaking time-reversal symmetry with a magnetic field, relatively large fluctuations of peak position as a function of magnetic field, and strong temperature dependence on the scale of the quantum level spacing. Quantum Dots: Coulomb Blockade, Mesoscopic Fluctuations, and Qubit Decoherence The continuous minituarization of integrated circuits is going to affect the underlying physics of the future computers. This new physics first came into play as the effect of Coulomb blockade in electron transport through small conducting islands. Then, as the size of the island L continued to shrink further, the qu...

This is a review of the phase coherent transmission through interacting mesoscopic conductors. As a paradigm we study the transmission amplitude and the dephasing rate for electron transport through a quantum dot in the Coulomb blockade regime. We summarize experimental and theoretical work devoted to the phase of the transmission amplitude. It is shown that the evolution of the transmission ph...

Observation of ionic Coulomb blockade in nanopores.
Emergent behaviour from electron-transport properties is routinely observed in systems with dimensions approaching the nanoscale. However, analogous mesoscopic behaviour resulting from ionic transport has so far not been observed, most probably because of bottlenecks in the controlled fabrication of subnanometre nanopores for use in nanofluidics. Here, we report measurements of ionic transport ...
متن کاملMesoscopic fluctuations in quantum dots in the Kondo regime
Properties of the Kondo effect in quantum dots depend sensitively on the coupling parameters and so on the realization of the quantum dot—the Kondo temperature itself becomes a mesoscopic quantity. Assuming chaotic dynamics in the dot, we use random matrix theory to calculate the distribution of both the Kondo temperature and the conductance in the Coulomb blockade regime. We study two experime...
